Pleasure Reading 180-240

Carrie rejoiced in Hurstwood's love for her and agreed to meet again the next Sunday. Mrs. Hale noticed that Carrie had been going out riding with another man while her "husband" was away, and the house-maid, who was fond of Drouet, wondered at Hurstwood's two visits while Drouet was out of town. Gossip spreaded through the building.
Hurstwood entertained fantasies of "pleasure without responsibility." He did not think he was doing anything that compromised his life. Carrie dined with him on Sunday evening, but she kept him at a distance. Drouet returned from his trip, and Hurstwood told him that he had called on Carrie once during his absence because he thought she might be lonely.
Carrie was under the impression that Hurstwood planed to marry her as soon as possible.
Hurstwood began to regard his home life with even greater indifference than before. Julia demanded a season ticket to the horse races because she wanted to show off her daughter. Hurstwood balked at the cost: one hundred and fifty dollars. After quarreling with Julia, he finally agreed to purchase one. Hurstwood noticed that his family has stopped informing him of their activities. He began to feel as though they were not giving him his due respect.
Meanwhile, Hurstwood and Carrie frequently exchanged letters.  Her mention of marriage shocked Hurstwood. He teld her that he would take her on a trip soon and that they would get married somewhere else. He was considering marrying her without divorcing Julia.
Drouet's local Elk lodge planed to put on an amateur theatrical to raise funds for new furniture. They needed a young lady for one of the parts, and they asked Drouet to find someone. Shortly before rehearsals began, he asked Carrie to do it. She was nervous at the prospect of acting, but also intrigued, and eventually Drouet convinced her to do it. He informed him fellow lodge members of the actress he had found, giving her name as Carrie Madenda. He told Carrie that he had given her a stage name to protect her reputation in case the play was a failure. Carrie studied the part and acted part of it out for Drouet. Her performance was surprisingly good for a beginner.

The Innocence of Muslims

The Daily Beast published an article called "Should YouTube Block “Innocence of Muslims?” in Sep 17,2012.  We know this film has made a lot of noise and caused many cultural conflicts. The reporter Andrew Blue makes us to think of ethical issues. Giving appraisal of the situation it's necessary to point out that YouTube is the life line for knowing what is happening. However, information can be viral. Sometimes it's hard to predict the course of events in the future, because we have no language to distinguish the good viruses from the bad, the cheery from the hateful and grotesque. Popular speech is not protected by the notion of “freedom of speech”; it would be pointless. What freedom of speech is designed for is to defend unpopular speech, no matter how cruel or vile or bigoted. There is some evidence of the deterioration of situation because The Innocence of Muslims is needlessly provocative. Because of numerous protests the authorities decided that YouTube should ban the videos from being viewed in Libya, Egypt, and other countries where such content is considered illegal.
The article concludes that the filter of information is the best solution in order to avoid the unintended consequences of viral media
In my opinion, news should be open and accessible to all and sundry. However, any media should not be a bigoted piece of poison calculated to inflame the whole world

Lions for Lambs (another attempt)

Film

Cast:  Robert Redford as Professor Stephen Malley, Meryl Streep as Janine Roth, Tom Cruise as Senator Jasper Irving, Michael Pena as Ernest Rodriguez, Derek Luke as Arian Finch.
Director: Robert Redford
Genre: is a 2007 American war drama film
Synopsis:The film took us to the military collisions in Afghanistan. This had been represented from several poits of view. A senator (Tom Cruise)  created a new military strategy and tried to suggest an idea to the society with help of a reputable journalist (Meryl Streep),two soldiers involved in that operation, and professor (Robert Redford) who narrated the story.
Review: What is a war?Does it have any sense?Where is the place for moral values and patriotism? Should we die of wounds at a war or die a natural death at home? Does this have to be done or not?Timeless issues..
Lions for Lambs follows three storylines playing out simultaneously. Much of it taking place within the office of a U.S. senator and the office of a university professor. That senator is Republican Jasper Irving, who is clearly one of those guys in D.C. who is willing to do “whatever it takes” to win the war. His goal is to get the American people on his side and to do that he must use the media to create propaganda. He calls in journalist Janine Roth for an exclusive intervie. At the same time two determined students at a West Coast university, Arian and Ernest , at the urging of their idealistic professor, Dr. Malley (Redford), attempt to do something important with their lives. They make the bold decision to commission in the army to fight in Afghanistan after graduating from college. Finally, at a California university, Professor Stephen Malley (Redford) disputes with cynical and unmotivated Todd Hayes (Andrew Garfield) about his attitude to life and political adventure.
Undoubtedly, the actors' performance is excellent. They are great at portraiting every possible human feelings and emotions.
The movie gets its title from the phrase by a British general during World War I “never have I seen such lions being led by such lambs.” Maybe Lions For Lambs would have benefited if it focused more on the lions instead of the lambs.I think this comparison deals with the fact that citizenhood just tools for authorities.
In conclusion I'd like ti say that this film is very inspiring and it touches my patriotic feeling.I think if you possess both a brain and a heart this movie will move and shake you into action. Lions for Lambs motivates people not to be passive.

My Plesure Reading 120-180

Hurstwood, however, was unaware that his son was at the theater that very same night. At breakfast the next day, his son mentioned that he had saw him there. Hurstwood replied that he went with Charlie Drouet and his wife, friends of Moy's who were visiting Chicago. Julia understood that Hurstwood's job sometimes required him to engage in social outings without her. However, he had several times declined to take her out because of work, including the previous night. Julia continued to pestered Hurstwood to go on social outings with her, and Hurstwood who in reality found his wife's company extremely dull, declined because he was "too busy." Julia became angry and notes that he had time for other people. Their mutual antagonism grew.
Meanwhile, through Mrs. Hale, Carrie learnt "to distinguish between degrees of wealth." She gazed longingly at stately mansions in Chicago, believing that certain happiness had to reside therein. Hurstwood visited her while Drouet was away, and she noted that he did not patronize her like Drouet. Hurstwood teld her that he knew she was not happy, and she asked him not to stare at her so intently. He touched her hand, startling her. After agreeing not to talk about their new intimacy, Hurstwood departed in high spirits. Carrie wondered if she had done something wrong.Hurstwood intended to make Carrie "confess an affection for him." His work schedule wss flexible, so he took an afternoon off to see her. They rode a horse-drawn carriage to the prairie outside of Chicago, where he declared that his times with her had been the happiest he had spent in years. He confessed that he loved her and asked that she declared her love for him. She replied with a kiss.

5 Principles for Teaching Journalism Ethics in the Digital Age by Stephen Ward, February 15, 2011

The article takes a critical view of our global media ecology. Today journalists employ sophisticated techniques and the digital revolution makes us thinking about proper use of these tools. Speaking of it is necessary to note some issues about the way of teaching. Giving appraisal of the situation a reporter conclude that such  sphere as journalism ethics is a field where old and new values clash. So there are several methods which respect traditional values and technological progress:
Good-bye Consensus means refusal of a framework of generally accepted ideas and an orientation on variety of opinion via ethic principles. And as a result, mixed media ethics is a work in progress.
The article carries a lot of comment on new Standards for Educators. They are the following:
1. Start from the students' media world.( Be experiential, creative and make debate)
2. Assist students with reflective engagement.( You can help them think their way through the issues)
3. Insist on critical thinking, not what is fashionable.( Indicate areas where objectivity might be needed)
4. Be transitional.( Show that the invention of new guidelines is possible)
5. Be global in your teaching.( journalists need to adopt a more globally minded view of themselves)
So the correspondent proves that the teaching should challenge, not discourage. I’m absolutely agree with this statement and I guess we firstly must revolutionize ourselves in order to teach others.

My Plesure Reding 60-120

For several days, Drouet tooke Carrie out sight-seeing, to the theater, and out to eat. Her misgivings about leaving Minnie and Hanson were swept away. Drouet invited Hurstwood to his home one evening for a game of cards, wanting to introduce Hurstwood to Carrie because she had moved in with him.Hurstwood lived in a fashionable three-story home with his family. Drouet said that he has told Hurstwood theyere married. Carrie asked why they could not get married in reality as well, but Drouet put her off, saying that he needed to wrap up a real estate deal first. Since Carrie didn't really love Drouet, she accepted his vague promise without further questions.
Hurstwood's elegant clothing and manners caught Carries attention. She compares him to Drouet and notices small deficiencies in her lover's personality and demeanor. Hurstwood entertained Carrie with a skilled flair, allowing her to win the card game.
Carrie tooke care to imitate all the graceful motions Drouet notes in other women, and in the process she became a girl with "considerable taste." She befriended the wife of a neighbor, Mr. Hale, who was a theater manager. In her conversations with Carrie, Mrs. Hale imparted detailed gossip about the social world of the rich and famous. One evening Drouet found Carrie in the dark with tears on her face. Carrie realized he could not sympathized with her feelings.
Hurstwood wondered how Drouet had come to win Carrie. He felt a strong attraction for her, and he knew that Drouet, whatever he may say, had no plans to marry her. Hurstwood invited the two of them out to the theater. The atmosphere of the theater enthralled Carrie. Hurstwood was in fine form, entertaining both of them; Drouet seemed dull in comparison.

As it does present you with the argument, it does leave it up to the viewer to make the decision, and eventually the action. This movie is charged, assertive, inspiring and fuses a sense of purpose into our currently hazy, blind society. Watch this movie. Get inspired. Do something.

My Pleasure Reading. Summary (pages 1-60)

The story took us back to 1889.Eighteen-year-old Caroline Meeber boardeda train headed for Chicago, leaving behind her small home town of Columbia City. She carried only four dollars, a few paltry belongings, and her sister's address in Chicago. As the train pulls out of Waukesha, she met a man,Charlie Drouet, a traveling salesman, and his flashy clothing and talkative ways made a positive impression on Carrie. They made a date for the following Monday. When the train arrived in Chicago, Carrie's sister Minnie was waiting for her at the station.
When they reach her apartment.Carrie studied the apartment and quickly determined that Minnie, Hanson, and their son lived a narrow, lean existence.Carrie had decided that it would be inappropriate for Drouet to visit her at the apartment, so she wrote him a letter. The next day, Carrie walked to the wholesale district to look for work.Eventually, she found a job in a shoe factory, where she earned four and a half dollars a week.
On the following Monday, Carrie reportув to her job, where she was made to sit at a stool and punch holes in pieces of show leather. She found the work difficult and unpleasant, and her back and shoulders quickly begin to ache.During the fourth day of her unsuccessful search for another job, Carrie encountered Drouet on the street. He took her to lunch. The high prices at the restaurant dismaied Carrie, but Drouet ordered a large meal for both of them. He learnt that she had been ill and that she had been trying for several days to find another job. She stated that she would probably have to leave Chicago and return home. She reluctantly accepted twenty dollars from Drouet to tide her over. He teld her to buy some new clothes and met him for a matinee show the next day.

Clinton gives Obama a ringing endorsement

The article take a critical view of election. The former US President Bill Clinton, who is still a very important figure at the political arena, has supported Barack Obama.Gining appraisal of the situation it's necessary to point out that Barack Obama took over in the midst of a financial crisis and its going to take longer than one term to put it right.Besides, there is every reason to believe that Obama inherited a deeply damaged economy. It's hard to predict the course of eents in future but there is some evidence of the improvement of the situation because authorities are intentional to continue to struggle with dificulties.Clinto said : '' Is the president satisfied? Of course not. But are we better off than we were when he took office".Speaking of this accession it is necessary to note that goals in manufacturing, energy, education, national security and the deficit are real achievable plans that would lead to new jobs, more opportunity and rebuild this economy on a stronger foundation.
