The narrator
arrived in Paris, where he got to know that Strickland lived in the cheapest
hotel without any woman. While chatting with him Charles opened the secret that
he had become interested in art. The narrator wanted Charles return home, but he
refused because he didn’t want to know anything about his wife and children, as
well as other people’s opinion about him. Mrs. Strickland was shocked as she couldn’t
understand Charles’ sudden devotion to art. Latter Mr. Strickland started her
own typewriting business while her sister took care about her children. Five
years later the narrator moved to Paris where he met his old friend Dirk
Strove, who was a not good artist. As things turned out Dirk knew Strickland
and could arrange a meeting with him.
