The author met Charles walking on the street who didn’t regret about Blanche’s death and it didn’t touch him personally. Strickland showed his paintings to the narrator, however they seemed to be strange for him. In was their last meeting, because Charles moved to Marseilles. It should be mentioned that the story continued, despite the fact that Strickland had already died. The author collected information from the words others. Strickland faced lots of difficulties such aspoverty, cheap doss-houses, hunger, cold and even fight, however he never lost heart from all these unpleasant events. So several years later after Strickland’s death the narrator wrote a book about him. After many years of wandering, he found himself in Tahiti. In fact, this island had turned to be the place Charles had been looking for through his life. It was a place for inspiration and his great creative work.

Dirk hoped that his wife may return to him one day. However, she did’t want to see him. Meanwhile, Charles broke up the relationship with Blanche . Being unable to bear all this, she committed suicide by taking a poison. Blanche’s death influenced  Dirk badly and he was going to Holland to his parents, but before the departure he  visited Strickland whom he wanted to accompanied him ,however Charles didn’t accept this proposal. Moreover, Dirk found Strickland’s painting depicting his nude wife and a portrait was a real piece of art. A month later, the narrator met Charles Strickland who was  interested in communicating with him.

The narrator meets who hardly resembles a person he knows. Mr. Strickland wears shabby clothes, he became very skinny and strange, however he has a strong desire to paint. However, he finishes his pictures he soon loses interest in them. Just before Christmas, the narrator and Dirk are looking for Strickland, because they haven’t seen him for a month. They get to know that he is seriously ill, lying and dying on a garret. Kind Dirk tries to persuade his wife to let Mr. Strickland stay at their house till his recovery. While nursing Strickland, Blanche, to her own surprise, falls in love with him. When Dirk lerns about it, he  goes away from his apartment and lets “beloved” live in his house. Dirk tries to make Blanche come back but he fails, so he loses his wife.

The Artist (2011)

Synopsis: A silent movie star meets a young dancer, but the arrival of talking pictures sends their careers in opposite directions.

Review:

The movie takes the period from 1927 to 1931. George Valentin, popular silent film star. He is gratified to acknowledge the new fad and that’s why he is put aside because the cinema gives an opportunity for a new kind of star. However, the beginner actress Peppy Miller is ready to help. She stars in the new talkie The Beauty Spot. Besides, the public approve of talking motion. George's answer is an attempt of making a silent film by his own.  It was The Tears of Love. Unfortunately, he fails. Likely, Peppy, who is in love with him, supports George and makes him confident in himself again.

"The Artist" is a marvelous movie that captures silent film era. It’s necessary to pay attention to hard work director Michel Hazanavicius who made this film very nearly soundless and in black-and-white colors. It is a splendid  film because it’s filled  with the  atmosphere of a dumb cinema.

As for performances, Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo make a great work, as they extend dramatic overstatement. Jean Dujardin is very brilliant in that part. He has this ideal silent era fascination that I can call him highly emotional and sensible actor. Bérénice Bejo also a great master at portraying every possible human feelings and emotions.  She's successful and talented actress. So, I may conclude that they both performed quite remarkably and show the atmosphere of that time.The supporting actors make contribution to the film.

Music is an inseparable part of a silent movie and in The Artist it is perfectly depicted. It fully conveys the situation. It doesn’t break the slightest. I should mention the camera-work,  that represented as old school and really looks like in the 1930s.

So, I may conclude that The Artist is enchanting, humorous, unexpected and pathetic. It is a great balance between the old and the new, comedy and drama. It is really well-done and everybody can find something interesting while watching it. I highly recommend this movie  to anybody who want to dive into the history of the cinema.

The article published on the news website The Guardian on May 1, 2013 is called Has Mexico's film industry beenhelped or harmed by Hollywood?The article reports at length that the success of comedy Nosotros los Nobles confirms Mexico as a cinematic supremo. The drama The Crime of Father Amaro is considered to be the highest-grossing local film of all time. It’s about a Mexico City millionaire who strips his kids of all their luxuries by staging a fake police raid, forcing them to drive buses, wait cantina tables and other humiliations conducive to heartwarming life lessons. Director Gary Alazraki pays attention to the fact that Latin America is a region with very small middle class. And that’s why the contrast between rich and poor is interesting to depict. As blockbuster season unfolds, the movie will the the most successful, $15m seems like nothing for it.

The article open secret that Latin America in general is heavily Hollywood-dominated, that’s why homemade films had just a 6.1% share in 2010. However, there's been a recovery since the dark days of the mid-90s. It was a period when cinemas were flooded by US imports after the country joined the North American Free Trade Area. Nosotros los Nobles proves that the local-language production can be a part of the intensifying pattern of intimate US studio involvement in overseas markets.

The article draws a conclusion that big neighbours can lend a helping hand, as well as smother; stories of rich and poor are rarely as simple they seem.

In my opinion, it’s difficult to became leading if you’re at the bottom of technical and industrial progress. To be honest, the reason that Nosotros Los Nobles has been a smash hit is because the movie is not like the mainstream Mexican movies.

The article published on the news website The Guardian on May 4, 2013 is called That's a wrap:, Observer film critic, steps down after50 years. The article reports at length that Philip French is a British film critic and former radio producer who has a reputation of a very influential person in the field of Cinema. According to American film journal , he was rated as Britain's "greatest living movie analyst". However, at the end of August he is to file his last column as this newspaper's film critic. His first column for the Observer, shows us a very believable picture of criminathe underworld. Philip French noted "the tired vignettes of sub-Runyon characters" in The Small World of Sammy Lee starring Anthony Newley. Speaking about the north London home,Philip shares with his wife Kersti, we pay attention to the memorable moments from a life largely spent in a darkened auditorium. His resignation letter tells of his feeling for the Observer- proud to be part of such a tradition.

Crucial to his life experience, and perhaps to his appreciation of film, was the impact of the war on his early years. Philip French was educated at Bristol Grammar School, the young French volunteered and joined the Parachute Regiment, serving in the Middle East.  In Which We Serve, The Way Ahead and The Way to the Stars are for those who want to understand the second world war.

Another big step in his life were films  which introduced him to the potent idea of the loser in a country supposedly all about success, and the wit of Jewish émigré culture.

Philip French will be speaking about his 50 years as an Observer critic next weekend. He believes that you should still be a role for an experienced critic. Moreover, it is not enough just to understand a film; you must try to say something of interest or value.

Aside from writing on cinema, French has worked as an arts producer at the BBC and reviewed theatre for the New Statesman. Yet he is comfortable to have focused on film. After all, he says, his first experience of Dickens was David Lean's Great Expectations and his first experience of Graham Greene was John Boulting's Brighton Rock.

The article concludes by saying that "Cinema was the great art form of the 20th century and this century is continuing the same way," he says. Commenting on the great directors, he adds "not all artists have a life-lease on their talent", and the same may apply to critics: "But at least I am giving up now, while I still have my mind."

As for me, I think that any film is a huge work of actors, director and film-team. It’s difficult to judge what movie is good or bad. You should be aware of all movements and have enough experience to be a critic. In my opinion, French is a great example of a person who has a right to judge.
